Claude Skills
Run the same job-search process yourself using Claude Code. These skill files work with any Claude subscription — no Between Roles account required.
How to use these skills
Three skills. One system.
Install the skill files into Claude, run them in order, and the system handles the operational work of your search — database, tailored resumes, and a daily briefing — so you spend time on conversations, not logistics.
Before you start
- ·Claude Pro ($20/mo) — the free tier does not support skill installation or the API call volume this system requires
- ·Google Chrome + the Claude for Chrome extension — used to fetch job postings directly from your browser
- ·Gmail account — required for Skill 3 daily email monitoring; Skills 1 and 2 work without it
- ·Your resume as a PDF or Word file — the raw material for your database
Connect Gmail to Claude
In Claude, go to Settings → Integrations and connect your Gmail account. Claude will only ever read your email — it never sends without you asking. Do this before installing skills.
Create a Claude Project
In Claude's sidebar, click New Project and name it something like "Job Search." Skills only work inside a project, and all your files will live there.
Install the three skill files
Inside your project, find the Skills area and upload each .skill file — db-builder first, then resume-builder, then tracker. After that you never touch the files again; just talk to Claude.
Build your database
Type Build my resume database in your project chat. Claude will ask for your resume file, your target role titles, your LinkedIn URL (optional), and any non-compete details. Answer in one session — everything goes straight into the database.
Generate your first tailored resume
Find a role you want to apply for, copy its URL, then type Build me a resume for this job: [URL]. Claude fetches the posting, selects and rewrites your best bullets to match it, delivers a .docx ready to submit, and scores it against common ATS platforms.
Start the daily tracker
Type Run my job tracker. On first run Claude asks your timezone and how far back to scan your email. Then say "Set up the tracker to run automatically at 7am weekdays" to schedule it. Each morning an HTML briefing lands in your project folder showing what's in progress, what needs follow-up, and new matches from up to eight job boards.
Resume Database Builder
Run onceReads your resume and LinkedIn profile, builds a structured Excel database of every bullet, skill, and summary variant you have. Everything Skills 2 and 3 draw from.
Custom Resume Builder
Run per applicationGive it a job URL. It fetches the posting, selects your most relevant bullets, rewrites them to mirror the job's language, and delivers a .docx formatted to parse correctly in Workday and Greenhouse.
Job Tracking Update
Runs daily at 7amScans your inbox for job-related emails, checks up to eight job boards for new matches, updates your tracker spreadsheet, and delivers an HTML briefing showing your pipeline by stage.
All files are saved automatically to ~/Claude/Projects/Resume Automation/ — created on first run, backed up automatically if that folder is under iCloud Drive.
resume_master_db.xlsxYour master database — bullets, summaries, skills, contact info, employer locations. The foundation everything else reads from.
job_tracker.xlsxLive tracker of all applications, contacts, settings, and run history. Add job board search URLs in the Settings tab.
job_briefing_YYYY-MM-DD.htmlYour daily morning briefing. Open in any browser. Shows pipeline by stage: In Progress, Follow-up Due, New Matches, Saved.
[Name]_[Company]_[Role].docxTailored resume for a specific role. Formatted for Workday and Greenhouse ATS parsing. Ready to submit.
The resume format was confirmed working in Workday on 2026-07-03. Two bugs were caught and fixed during live testing:
Role header layout
Job title and company were on the same line, separated by a tab character. Workday collapsed that into one string, breaking the Company field. Fixed: title and company are now two separate paragraphs — no tab characters.
Employment date format
Year-only dates (e.g. 2020–2026) caused Workday to silently default both start and end fields to January of that year. Fixed: all dates render as Month YYYY — Month YYYY.
Is my resume data safe?
The skill files contain no personal information — they're generic instructions. Your data is only processed in your own Claude environment and is never shared with other users.
Can I share these skill files?
Yes. The files are completely generic and work for anyone. Never share your resume_master_db.xlsx or job_tracker.xlsx — those contain your personal information.
What if I use Outlook instead of Gmail?
Skills 1 and 2 work fully regardless of email provider. Skill 3's daily email monitoring requires Gmail specifically — but you still get the job board scan and HTML briefing.
What does the ATS score mean?
It's a simulated score modeled on Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, iCIMS, and Taleo scoring logic — not a result from an actual HR system. Use it to spot keyword gaps, not as a guarantee.
How do I update my database after a new job?
Run the db-builder skill again with your updated resume. It adds new content without deleting what's already there. Small updates — a new skill, a new bullet — can also be captured by answering gap questions during any resume build.
